Judges judge in competitions for a number of reasons. A key reason is so that you will earn experience points for doing so. In order to get those points the competition organizer must file their organizer report with the BJCP. BJCP members understand the importance of  this step. However many of the non-BJCP competition organizers do not. This often means delays in the report being filed and points being credited to BJCP judges’ records. So when you judge in competitions, take the time remind the organizer that the organizer report needs to be submitted within 21 days. Offer to help. Or check with the organizer after 21 days to see if the report has been filed. If the organizer files the report through our on-line reporting system judges will received email notification of their points right away. However if they submit an XML report then points will not be present in your on-line record until the next database update; no email notification is generated. So recommend to organizers that they use the BJCP’s online reporting system so you will get confirmation of your points much sooner.

    Competition management workflow changes
The BJCP is initiating a new database and accompanying competition management workflow that will affect most of our competition interactions with the BJCP. Some of the interactions that we hope to improve is in the registering of competitions, filing organizer reports, updating and changing submissions, etc. While we believe we understand what the new workflow should be we’d like to ask for your help in identifying what judges and organizers think are the processes that need to be changes and what you feel would be better for the organizers and the judges. If you have problem areas that should be addressed or suggestions to improve our procedures, send an email at comp_director@bjcp.org and tell us we can do to improve our systems.
