BJCP 2021 Election Results and Leadership Transition

The BJCP Election Committee has certified the election results for the 2021 election:

Mid-Atlantic: Fred Mullner was elected with 58.57% of the vote. Voter turnout was 18.06% of the region’s active members. Mullner replaces Gordon Strong as the Mid-Atlantic Representative.

Midwest: Sandy Cockerham ran unopposed.

South: Sal Mortillaro was elected with 56.3% of the vote. Voter turnout was 12.89% of the region’s active members. The BJCP would like to thank Jen Blair for her initiative in running for the board and her commitment to the BJCP.

As a result of this election, Gordon Strong, who has served as the Mid-Atlantic Representative since 2005 and BJCP President since 2006, ended his current service in those roles effective at the end of his term on May 31, 2021. Strong’s impact on the BJCP is incalculable, and the BJCP would like to extend its most profound gratitude for both his past service in a multitude of roles and his continued service in the role of BJCP Style Guidelines Chair and principal author.

Strong said, “As my time as your president comes to a close, my thoughts are of our organization’s many accomplishments since I took over. It indeed has been a great honor to serve, and I deeply value the friendships I have made during this time.”

The new board will take office on June 1, 2021. Dennis Mitchell, current BJCP Vice President and Mountain/Northwest Rep, will serve as acting president until the new board holds officer elections in the coming weeks.
