A Note about BOS Winner Data in Reporting: As of May 2024 we stopped collecting BOS winner information.

After consultation with the Competition Directorate and other BJCP Officers, we have decided to no longer collect Best Of Show (BOS) winner details in competition reports submitted by competition organizers.

There are two primary reasons for this:

    • This information is not being utilized anywhere beyond your competition. In the past, a list of Best Of Show winners was published in Zymurgy, but that feature has been discontinued by the publisher.
    • More importantly, this led to delays in competition organizers submitting reports as some did not want to disclose BOS winner data when the results would not be officially announced until a later date.
      • WE ONLY NEED INFORMATION ABOUT THE JUDGES, STEWARDS AND STAFF to award appropriate BJCP points.  There is NO reason to delay submitting organizer reports!

Note that this is distinctly different from BOS counts and judging points. Competition organizers should still submit:

    • the number of BOS (if more than one)
    • number of entries on each BOS table
    • report of judges who participated in Best Of Show judging so they can be credited with judging points.

The rest of this article outlines important information for competition organizers about reporting Best of Show (BOS) awards and judging points in the BJCP competition report tool.

Multiple BOS Awards and Judging Points

The online competition report submission system now supports awarding multiple BOS awards (up to 5 per competition). The number of judges who can be credited with BOS judging points depends on the number of entries on the BOS table and the specific BOS being awarded:

    • First BOS:
      • If 5-15 entries are on the BOS table, up to 3 judges can be credited.
      • If more than 15 entries are on the BOS table, up to 5 judges can be credited.
    • Second and Subsequent BOS Awards:
      • As long as the number of entries on the BOS table is greater than 3, up to 3 additional BOS judging points can be awarded.

    Important Requirements

    • The total number of entries in the competition must be higher than 30 to award any BOS judging points.

    Reporting Additional BOS Awards

To report additional BOS awards in the competition report tool:

    1. Access the tool at https://www.bjcp.org/competitions/reporting/
    2. After reporting the main BOS details, for each additional BOS:
      • Enter the number of entries on the BOS table.
      • Select “Beer” or “Mead/Cider” from the drop-down menu next to it.

The system will automatically calculate the correct number of BOS judging credits based on the information provided.

    Third-Party Competition Management Software

If you use third-party software (i.e. BCOE&M, BAP, Reggie, etc) to manage and generate competition reports, ensure the app supports reporting multiple BOS awards and the corresponding judging points according to the BJCP criteria. If your software doesn’t support this functionality, you will need to use the manual competition report tool.

    Competition Report Due Date

Please remember that organizer reports are due within 21 days of the competition date. Timely submission helps avoid reminders from the BJCP staff. Competition reports can now be submitted before the awards ceremony, as entrant and winner data is no longer collected.

Please refer to https://www.bjcp.org/competitions/reporting/ for further details on competition report submission.
