2014 Draft Guidelines cover page
At a Glance
  • A draft of the 2014 Style Guidelines was released after the 2014 National Homebrewers Conference
  • For two months, comments were fielded on the BJCP Forum
  • An internal group is finalizing guidelines
The 2014 Style Guidelines are moving towards completion. Gordon Strong presented the overview of changes at the AHA NHC in Grand Rapids. The draft guidelines were subsequently published on the BJCP web site for public comment. The BJCP Forum was revised to archive past style guideline comments and create a new section for feedback directly related to the new guidelines. The comment period was open for two months, and many hundreds of comments were posted. These comments have all been reviewed, and several changes to the draft guidelines have been made. A small internal review team has been selected and is currently reviewing the second draft for consistency and correctness. Once these comments have been addressed, the final version of the guidelines will be assembled for publication.
The guidelines will first be posted on the BJCP web site as a document. Conversion into other formats, languages, and platforms will begin, and the Exam Directorate will begin revising the BJCP exams. The efforts at conversion and translating, as well as updating the BJCP exam are expected to take several months.
Competition organizers will have discretion in choosing what guidelines to use for their own competitions.
The Exam Directorate will publish information as to when the 2014 Style Guidelines will be used on exams. In the past, this transition period has been 4 to 6 months in length. A similar period is envisioned for this release, so it is unlikely the guidelines will impact exams held before June 2015.
