The BJCP 2014 Election Committee recently certified the results of the 2014 officer and 2014 representative elections. The committee, comprised of Communication Director Mike Dixon, Exam Director Jim Wilson, and Assistant Communication Director Jeff Sanders were appointed by the BJCP board in January 2014 to conduct the 2014 election for eligible regions. In 2014 the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, South, and West regions held elections.
In the Mid-Atlantic region Grand Master IX judge Gordon Strong was re-elected with 59% of the vote. Voter turnout was 40% of the region's active members.
In the Midwest region Grand Master judge Sandy Cockerham was elected with 37% of the vote. Voter turnout was 28% of the region's active members.
In the South region Grand Master III judge Phil Farrell was unopposed and was re-elected.
In the West region National judge Travis Hammond was elected with 51% of the vote. Voter turnout was 47% of the region's active members.
The winners officially took office on June 1, 2014.
Subsequent to the closing of the voting window, the the newly elected board conducted officer elections for the offices of President, Vice-President, and Treasurer. Each board member sent a note to the board declaring their intentions or their nominations of others. Representatives were allowed to nominate others or themselves, but were limited to running to one office at a time, as outlined by the BJCP’s election policy.
Each of the representatives sent emails to the elections committee, and the results were tallied. Since they were unopposed, Gordon Strong was re-elected to the office of President and Al Boyce was re-elected to the office of Treasurer. Phil Farrell, Sandy Cockerham, and Ryan Thomas were asked to provide a candidate statement of 250 word or less for the office of Vice President. Board members placed their votes with the election committee, and the Vice President was declared to be South Representative Phil Farrell.
The BJCP election committee thanks Josh Weikert, Steve Cook, Brian Eichhorn, and David Teckam for demonstrating exceptional initiative and interest in the program.
